The fastest way to get better at speaking Spanish is to speak Spanish, out loud, every day. If you have no one to talk to, an AI tutor is the next best thing: in Prima Speak you have a real spoken conversation in Spanish with Prima, who answers by voice in real time, at your level, and helps you say it right. It is free to start, with 3 minutes of live conversation a day and no card.

Quick answers

Can I practise Spanish conversation with AI?
Yes. In Prima Speak you speak Spanish out loud and Prima answers by voice in real time, like a conversation with a person, at your level.
Is it free?
Yes, to start, with no card: 3 minutes of live speaking a day, the whole course and 50 text messages a day. Pro gives you 10 minutes a day for $9.99 a month.
Which Spanish?
Your choice: Spain's Spanish or Latin American Spanish.
What if I am a beginner?
Choose Beginner: Prima speaks slowly, in short sentences, and asks questions you can answer in a word or two. Stuck? Ask her in English.
Does Prima Speak work on my phone?
Yes, in the browser: Safari on iPhone (iOS 15 or later) or Chrome on Android, with the microphone allowed.

What a conversation with Prima sounds like

Prima starts, you answer out loud, and when you make a mistake she says it right in her next sentence, so the conversation keeps going. A beginner's exchange:

  • Prima: "¡Hola! ¿Qué hiciste ayer?" (Hi! What did you do yesterday?)
  • You: "Yo fue al mercado."
  • Prima: "¡Ah, fuiste al mercado! ¿Qué compraste?" (Ah, you went to the market! What did you buy?)
  • You: "Compré tomates y pan."
  • Prima: "¡Bien! ¿Y qué vas a cocinar?" (Good! And what are you going to cook?)

She answered with the right past tense ("fuiste", you went; yours is "yo fui") without stopping, and moved on. At the end of the session your report shows your pace, the Words to practise (here "fui, fuiste, fue"), which also go to your Review list, and what Prima will remember.

Four ways to practise Spanish with Prima

Free conversation

Tell her about your day, your plans, your work. Prima remembers what you tell her (you can see and delete her notes), so the next conversation picks up where you left off. This is the closest thing to a conversation partner who is always there.

Real-life scenes

In the Spanish course, Prima plays the other person in situations you will actually meet: ordering at a café, checking into a hotel, asking for directions, a job interview. Each lesson starts with a short preview of what you will say and ends with a report and a score.

What is around you

Turn on your camera and show Prima things around you: she names them in Spanish, asks you about them and has you say them. It is a quick way to learn the everyday words textbooks skip.

Spanish from the videos you watch

With Prima Speak for Chrome, the YouTube videos you already watch in Spanish become practice: about every minute of speech, at the end of a line, the video pauses, you say the line, and Prima corrects one thing. Subtitles in Spanish with the translation in English are free. More in the shadowing technique with YouTube.

A short daily Spanish routine

  1. Warm up (2 minutes). Read a short Spanish dialogue aloud, playing both parts.
  2. Shadow (3 minutes). One minute of a Spanish video or podcast, sentence by sentence, copying the rhythm.
  3. Talk (3 minutes). A conversation with Prima about your day, or a lesson from the course.
  4. Note it (1 minute). The two words you reached for and could not find. Use them tomorrow.

The conversation fits in the free plan's 3 minutes a day. Only live speaking with Prima uses minutes: text chat, word review and your reports never do.

Tips for faster progress

  • Speak before you feel ready. Mistakes cost nothing here: Prima says it right in her next sentence and you carry on.
  • Answer in full sentences, even short ones: "Fui al mercado" teaches you more than "mercado".
  • Ask in English when you are stuck. "How do you say 'straw'?" gets a one- or two-sentence answer, and then you are back in Spanish.
  • Use the help buttons. Slower and Say it again do what they say; Help me say it gives you a short sentence you could say next, with its meaning (in a lesson, the phrase for the next step).
  • Come back every day. A few minutes daily beats an hour once a week.

Questions

Is an AI tutor good for Spanish conversation practice?

For practice, yes: it answers you at your level, at any hour, with no judgement, and it corrects you without stopping the conversation. A person adds culture and real stakes, so use both when you can: practise with Prima, then use it with people.

Can I choose between Spain and Latin American Spanish?

Yes. In Prima Speak you choose Spain's Spanish or Latin American Spanish when you start, and Prima speaks it, with its words and its accent.

Does Prima record my voice?

No. While you speak, your voice goes from your browser straight to Google's Gemini Live, and Prima Speak never stores the audio. The transcript and the report stay in your account; you can delete Prima's notes any time, or your whole account and everything in it.

How much does Prima Speak cost if I want to practise more?

Pro is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year for 10 minutes a day and unlimited text chat, and a first subscription starts with 3 days free. Extra minutes that never expire: +30 minutes for $2.99 or +60 minutes for $4.99.
