Prima Speak is a live speaking coach, operated by Octag AI LLC and contactable at hello@primaspeak.com. To coach you it has to hear you. This page says exactly what that means for your data, in plain words.
What we collect
- Your account. Your email address (or the name, email and photo your Google account shares), the language you speak, the languages you learn and your level in each. We use it to sign you in and keep your progress.
- Your voice, while a session is open. Audio from your microphone goes from your browser straight to Google's Gemini Live API for the length of a speaking session, to coach you in real time. We never receive or keep the audio. The transcript of the session and its report (words per minute, missed words, Fluency Score) are stored in your account so you can read them again; they are erased when you delete your account.
- Your camera, only when you turn it on. In a speaking session you can turn your camera on to show Prima things. While it is on, a picture about once a second goes from your browser straight to Google's Gemini Live API, the same way as your voice; we never receive or keep the pictures, and nothing is recorded. Prima talks about the things, places and actions she sees, never about anyone's looks. It stays off unless you turn it on, and turns off when the session ends.
- Your saved words. The words you saved or missed, with their meanings, so they come back for review on a schedule.
- Usage analytics. Which pages and screens you open, how long sessions last, which plan you are on and where a purchase started (the website or the extension, and the site that sent you here), through Google Analytics. Once you are signed in, your account's id goes with it, never your name, your email or your audio. See Cookies below.
- Payments. Stripe handles payment details. We never see your card number; we receive a receipt and a subscription status. With each checkout we note where it started (the website or the extension, the site you were on, and Google Analytics' ids for your visit), so we know what works; the note is deleted with your account.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets its own cookies on primaspeak.com, including in the extension's panel, which shows a page of this website. If your time zone is in Europe we ask first: until you choose, and if you decline, Google Analytics gets only signals with no cookie. Elsewhere the cookies are on unless you turn them off. If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, or blocks Google Analytics (an ad blocker does), nothing is sent at all. Change your cookie choice.
Trying it without an account
You can practise before you create an account. What you do then (your languages and level, your sessions, your saved words, Prima's notes) is kept in a guest account that lives in this browser only, with no email and no name. It stays there until you sign up, and when you create your free account all of it comes with you. A guest account nobody uses for 30 days is deleted with everything in it, and Settings has "Delete guest data" to do it yourself at any time. To stop one connection from opening guest after guest, we count the new guests per internet connection each day with a scrambled code made from the connection's address; the address itself is never stored.
What Prima remembers
So the next session can pick up where the last one left off, Prima keeps a few short notes between sessions: things you mentioned about your life (your job, a trip, your dog's name) and the language worth practising again ("por vs para"). After a session ends, a text model reads that session's transcript once and writes these notes; audio is never used for this and never kept. The notes stay in your account, only you can see them, and they are never used for advertising or shared.
We never note your health, religion, politics, sexuality, ethnicity or immigration status, money, anything to do with the law, or anything that identifies or locates you, even if you mention it.
In Settings, "See what Prima remembers" lists every note: delete any line, or everything. Turn "Prima remembers" off and the notes are deleted and no new ones are made.
The browser extension
Prima Speak for Chrome and Edge uses the same account as the website, so everything above applies to it too. What it adds:
- Only on the tab you choose. The extension works on a tab only after you click its icon there. It does nothing on your other tabs.
- Watch with Prima. While it is on, the sound of that tab is processed on your computer, to find where each spoken line ends. Nothing leaves your computer while it listens, except for subtitles in Microsoft Edge (below).
- Subtitles. While Prima listens, the speech in that tab is also turned into subtitles and translated into your language, on your computer. In Microsoft Edge, which has no on-device speech recognition yet, subtitles use Microsoft's online speech recognition instead, and only after you turn them on there: the tab's sound is then sent to Microsoft to be turned into text, and the translation still happens on your computer. Subtitle lines are not stored. A word you keep with "+ Review" is saved to your Review list with its meaning and the page's title.
- A practice moment. When one starts, only the last few seconds of the tab's sound before it go straight to Google's Gemini Live API, to run the moment with you; we never receive or keep that sound. The video's title and the site's name go with the moment's setup, so Prima knows what you are watching. Prima Speak keeps nothing from a moment except what any session leaves in your account, as on the website: its transcript, its report and its name in your history ("Watch · " and the video's title).
- Your microphone is used only while a session or a practice moment is open. The extension asks for it once, in a tab of its own.
- In your browser, the extension keeps its settings (how often Prima stops, for example) and, if you start free without an account, your three answers (the language you are learning, your level and your own language) until your first practice or until you sign in. Your account and your progress stay in your Prima Speak account, not in the extension.
- Usage analytics, as on the website: which parts you use (the panel opened, listening started and stopped, a practice moment, the plans shown, a checkout), with counts and durations, your browser, the extension's version and the name of the site you were watching (for example youtube.com), never the page's address, its title or anything said in it. The website's own page in the panel sends them, with the website's cookie choice.
- The debug log, for support, stays in your browser, holds no words, titles, passwords or email addresses, and is sent only if you copy it into a message yourself.
What we do not do
We do not sell your data. We do not train models on your voice. We do not send notifications unless you said yes, and every kind has its own switch.
Children
Prima Speak is for adults: you must be eighteen or older to use it, as our terms say, and the sign-in screen asks you to confirm it. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you think someone under eighteen has an account, write to hello@primaspeak.com and we delete it.
Where your data lives
Your account, progress and saved words are stored in Google Cloud (Firebase) in the United States (Iowa, us-central1). Live audio, and camera pictures when you turn the camera on, are processed by Google's Gemini Live API under Google's terms for paid services; they are not used to train Google's models.
Your rights
In the dashboard, Settings (tap your photo at the top right) has two buttons. Download my data saves everything stored for you (your profile and languages, every session with its transcript and report, your saved words and Prima's notes) as one file. Delete my account cancels any subscription and erases all of it at once, together with your sign-in; the only thing kept is the payment record that tax law requires us and Stripe to keep. You can also write to hello@primaspeak.com. If you are in the EU, the UK, California or another place with a data-protection law, you have the rights that law gives you, and we honour them without asking you to prove why.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we say so in the app and by email before it takes effect. The date at the top is the last change.
